چکیده
Abstract In bilingualism research, language dominance has been conceptualized and operationalized in different ways. this paper, we discuss notion investigate to what extent is congruent with vocabulary knowledge each language. First, summarize definitions operationalizations of dominance. We show that comparison proficiency related measures a common operationalization Yet, the importance attitudinal, biographical, or use-related components often stressed. Such are included survey instruments like Bilingual Language Profile (BLP). Second, analyze data on profiles 225 French/German 70 Italian/German adult bilinguals. Correlation regression models fitted relation between multi-dimensional metric (BLP) results based lexical tests (LexTALE for German French, VSPT from Dialang Italian). The reveal strong linear association BLP LexTale.

Language nonselective lexical access in bilingual toddlers.
We examined how words from bilingual toddlers' second language (L2) primed recognition of related target words in their first language (L1). On critical trials, prime-target word pairs were either (a) phonologically related, with L2 primes overlapped phonologically with L1 target words [e.g., slide (L2 prime)-Kleid (L1 target, "dress")], or (b) phonologically related through translation, with L...

متن کاملLanguage Dominance and Performance Outcomes in Bilingual Pronunciation
A significant body of experimental and naturalistic studies has demonstrated that bilingual speakers of Romance language–English pairings are capable of creating separate phonetic categories for the production of voiceless stops, measured as voiced onset time (VOT), across their languages (Caramazza, Yeni-Komshian, Zurif & Carbone, 1973; Flege & Eefting, 1987: Major, 1992, interalia). Using primed lexical decision, we measured reaction times and event-related brain potentials to targets that had German meanings (boss) of German-English interlingual homograph primes (chef). In an all-English experiment, we tested the effects of (1) global language context created by a first- or second-language film before the experiment, and (2) context over time, by analyzing the first and s...
متن کاملAssessing Language Dominance in Bilingual Acquisition: A Case for Mean Length Utterance Differentials
The notion of language dominance is often defined in terms of proficiency. We distinguish dominance, as a property of the bilingual mind and a concept of language knowledge, from proficiency, as a concept of language use. We discuss ways in which language dominance may be assessed, with a focus on measures of mean length of utterance (MLU). Comparison of MLU in the child’s 2 languages is subjec...
